October Monthly - The Commitment You Will Enjoy
Pele's quote sums up this past month perfectly. Getting up early was never easy or fun, but it undeniably gave me a feeling of success. Whether you were able to complete every day or not, look back and see how far you've come. All of the extra time you had, the extra things you were able to fit in. Then carry that sense of achievement and love of doing into this next month.
October is here with a burst of colorful leaves, delicious smells, and cold temperatures. With the settling in of routines and knowing (for the most part:) what will be happening for the next month, I would like to work on setting aside time for our favorite hobbies. My personal favorite is baking. Especially in fall with all of the spices, pumpkins, and apples. Mmmm! Makes me lick my lips just thinking about it. Whether your hobby is baking, sewing, hiking, crafting, photography, music... whatever it is, I'd like you to focus on setting aside a certain amount of time each week for the next four odd weeks, to really enjoy time doing it. Use the habit you started last month of getting up earlier, and simply enjoy time doing what you love. If you love to hike, meet a friend and hike to see the sunrise. If your hobby is crafting, start some music and a cozy fire, (in a fireplace, please;) grab a cup of tea, and jump in. For me it's an early morning before the rest of the family is up, instrumental Christmas music, (I know, it's not Christmas time yet. But nobody else is up to care;) and the delicious smell of pumpkin streusel muffins. The quiet, the music, the stress relieving hobby, blend together to create the perfect combination of fall and relaxation. I know the push today is to "go go go," but let's focus on setting aside a sliver of our time to just take a break. God says all throughout the Bible to rest. Exodus 34:21 even tells us specifically to rest now, during harvest time. "Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest." So once a week set aside some time, take a break from the rush, and enjoy doing what you love.
