March 2024 - Casting Your Burdens
"Are you ever burdened with a load of care? Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear? Count your many blessings, ev'ry doubt will fly, And you will be singing as the days go by. So, amid the conflict, whether great or small, Do not be discouraged, God is over all; Count your many blessings angels will attend, Help and comfort give you to your journey's end."
In March we are going to learn to cast our burden's on Christ. Psalm 55:22 says, "Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee; He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved." Are you dealing with something that's too big for you? Are you struggling with something you can't overcome? Whether it's through family, friends, health, or even your besetting sin, you can cast it on Him.
1. Breaking it down: You have to cast your burden upon Him. The opposite of worry is prayer. Philippians 4:6 says, "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." Your worrying will not fix anything, but Christ's intervention will.
2. Doing your part: Each time you are tempted to take your burden back and worry about it again, bring it back to Christ through prayer, and surrender it to Him. Then, rather than dwelling on what you cannot fix, dwell on all that Christ has done for you. As the song above says: "Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly, and you will be singing as the days go by." When John the Baptist doubted, Christ didn't tell Him to suck it up and just believe. No, Jesus told him to dwell on all the things that He had already done. The only way to stop thinking about something is to think about something else. So this month, make a point to dwell on all that Christ has done for you.
3. Feel the freedom: Christ said if you give Him your burdens He will sustain. You do not need to walk this road by yourself. If you will surrender, He will sustain.
"Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee; He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved."
